Managing a Large-Scale operation: Navigating Challenges and Conflicts

I am thrilled to share an incredible journey I embarked upon in 2021. It was a challenge like no other - managing part of a project based on a massive statistic operation for Census 2021 and launched by the National Institute of Statistics

I can't help but feel a profound sense of accomplishment and personal growth. Accepting the challenge to work on this vital endeavour was a decision that pushed me beyond my comfort zone and exposed me to a world of data collection and population mapping.

I. A Leap into the World of Data Collection

II. Navigating a Time-Sensitive and Complex Operation

As I reflect upon my involvement in the Census 2021 statistic operation, I can't help but feel a profound sense of accomplishment and personal growth. Accepting the challenge to work on this vital endeavour was a decision that pushed me beyond my comfort zone and exposed me to a world of data collection and population mapping.

The magnitude of the task at hand was clear from the start. With a tight timeline of just four months, I was entrusted with the responsibility of managing 12 teams comprising 50 field recruiters.

Our mission was to gather comprehensive data about people's way of life and the structural landscape of the country. It was a tall order, further compounded by the challenges presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and political conflicts that interfered with our work.

III. Leading and Managing 12 Teams

To effectively fulfil my role, I had to coordinate 12 teams with a total of 50 employees, manage the recruiting process, and ensure optimized service delivery.

I quickly realized that a fast training program alone wouldn't be sufficient for the field recruiters, who would encounter numerous doubts and challenges while collecting data. As a servant leader, I positioned myself as a resource for them, always available to address their questions and concerns.

IV. Overcoming Challenges and Building Resilience

Throughout this operation, I encountered various conflicts and obstacles.

There were individuals who were misinformed about the purpose of the operation and were unwilling to participate. Some territorial disputes and encounters with rude and confrontational individuals added to the complexity.

However, I approached these challenges with empathy, active listening, and a determination to find common ground. Instead of shying away from difficult conversations, I proactively addressed the issues, understanding that early intervention would prevent them from snowballing into larger problems.

V. A Servant Leader's Approach

In addition to monitoring the project's progress on the management platform, I scheduled regular meetings with all the teams to understand their specific needs and provide detailed assistance.

For those struggling with the platform or facing difficulties during field interactions, I went above and beyond by personally accompanying them, even when they were hesitant to ask for help.

I encouraged them to be proactive, precise, and standout performers, fostering a healthy sense of competition among the teams.

VI. Proactive Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution

Throughout the operation, I embraced the mindset of proactive problem-solving.

I realized that early intervention and addressing conflicts head-on were essential for maintaining control over the situation.

Active listening, empathy, and a focus on finding common ground allowed me to navigate through territorial disputes and overcome obstacles.

By approaching challenges with a solution-oriented mindset, I fostered a sense of unity and collaboration within the teams.

VII. Triumphs and Accomplishments

The results of the Census21 operation were nothing short of remarkable. We successfully completed the project within budget, timeline, and quality targets. Gathering approximately 17,630 population responses for statistical purposes, we achieved the primary objective of painting an accurate picture of the country.

Moreover, I took pride in helping all team members fulfil their duties with excellence, administering recognition and rewards to motivate and inspire them. Each team member played a crucial role in the success of the operation, and their dedication and hard work were instrumental in achieving our goals. The bonds we formed went beyond professional relationships, as we supported and uplifted each other throughout the project.

VIII. A Transformative Journey of Growth and Connection

My participation in the Census21 statistic operation was a transformative journey that broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of the real needs of people.

It reinforced my belief in the power of research and highlighted the importance of adaptability, effective communication, and resource management.

By embracing the challenges, nurturing collaboration, and leading with empathy, I not only accomplished the objectives of the operation but also forged lasting connections with my team members.

I encourage each of you to embrace opportunities outside your comfort zones, for it is through these experiences that we grow and make a meaningful impact on the world.

The Census21 operation was a testament to the value of resilience, teamwork, and dedication in the face of complexity. As we continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of data collection, let us approach each endeavour with an open mind and a willingness to make a difference.
